I like setting goals for the new year, and making myself accountable to them. Though looking at the list of writing progress over on the left seems daunting, so I better go through and see what each of them needs.
The Gods’ Blessings
My writing group gave me a ton of feedback on v 2, and when I was at Sasquan, the first 6,600 words of v 3 and a synopsis were critiqued by a group which included 3 pro authors. I’m excited by the changes to make, but I’m not sure when I want to do them, as I have short stories and Lightning Born to work on.
Status: On hold
Meddling Gods
I want to get another draft of this done and get it submitted to Writers of the Future again. But I realized partway through v 4 that I need to scrap it and start again. *sigh* The amount of work this story needs is daunting, but I’m determined to get through it.
Status: Revising, deadline March 31
The Legacy Left Behind
What I do with this story completely depends on the kind of response it gets. It will either get published or revised (maybe both) this year.
Status: Currently on submission
Floating Island
I plan on sending this story out to two groups of beta readers, revising between and after before sending it out on submission. And I still need a better name for this story.
Status: Waiting for beta readers
Unstop the Wind
I’ve let this one sit for awhile so I could work on other stories. I have comments from one group of beta readers, and will revise it before sending it out to another group
Status: Revising, deadline June 1
Silent Scars
I have this in the queue for me to submit to beta readers after “Floating Island.” I don’t know when I’ll get to revising it though, especially since I don’t see much of a market for it. I guess I’ll wait until I get insomnia/depression pushing me to it again.
Status: Waiting for beta readers.
Changestone
What I do with this story completely depends on the kind of response it gets. It will either get published or revised (maybe both) this year.
Status: Currently on submission
After
I like the concept for this story, but that’s really all it is, a concept. Since I have so many other ideas to work on, I’m going to forget about this one for now. Maybe once I figure out how to make it a real story, I’ll bring it back out.
Status: Shelving
Sarimanok Feather
This has been on submission for most of the year, and gotten a bunch of rejections. Honestly, I’m not happy with this story anymore. And since I took the best ideas from this story to write “Unstop the Wind,” I will be shelving it if it is rejected from the latest market.
Status: Currently on submission
Lightning Born
This novel has sat for a long time with feedback from my writing group. As I will need something new for my new writing group once “Silent Scars” is done, I think it’s finally time to move this story up in priority.
Status: Revising
So, to sum up the definite plans for 2016:
- 1 draft “Meddling Gods”
- 2 drafts “Unstop the Wind”
- 2 drafts “Floating Island”
- 1 draft “Lightning Born”
And, to add:
- Write new story to submit to Mormon Lit Blitz
- Revise something to submit to Writers of the Future Q1 V 34
- Get more than 10 rejections or get something accepted for pro publication
