I entered “Meddling Gods” (rename of “Settling with Sea Serpents”) in Q2 for the Writers of the Future Contest. This is a prestigious international writing contest, open only to those who have not published professionally (definition given in the contest rules). The results are in, and “Meddling Gods” is an honorable mention, meaning it placed in the top 10%.
To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed. I really felt this one would be the one that could make finalist. But as people congratulating me points out, at least it’s not a straight rejection!
I’ve heard of several honorable mentions that go straight to publication elsewhere. However, I have some beta readers that haven’t read this story yet, so I’ll probably send it to them and do a rewrite before I send it to the markets again.
